Sadly, only a few artefacts have remained intact from medieval and Renaissance Hungary. The Lapidarium has the most notable national collection of sculptures from these eras, especially showcasing the Cathedral’s carvings. It also exhibits the restoration works done to the church at different times, placing a special emphasis on the Romanesque period, when the Cathedral took its present appearance. The exhibition gives a comprehensive overview of the restored building’s beauty, its former wealth, and it helps us to grasp the concepts of the 19th century remodelling, as well as the aesthetic and theological principles of the day.
